Tee shirts and trophies…. Sayward September Showcase

After a quiet six weeks following on from the GoldRiver400, I am cranking the VIME machinery back into action and revving up for the Sayward September Showcase 20-22 September.

I’ve got a couple of things to tell you about for the near future and a couple of things potentially in the pipeline for next year.

Firstly for the September Showcase event I have the first unveiling of the trophies, for the event and the season overall…

These are so new, I haven’t even got my sticky hands on them yet…. They are still at the engravers workshop.

Trophy for the event winner and trophies for first and second in the season overall, to be awarded at the conclusion of the second day of the event.

Next, tee shirts. We’re going arty, dahrling! Artist Helena Hickman (my daughter) has created a series of Art Deco images depicting motorcycle enduro events on the north of Vancouver Island. The tee shirt (below) is available for purchase on the shop page of this website for $45Cdn plus postage or pickup.

Developments for 2025.

Enduro:

I have recently been in touch with Michael Graves, the organiser of the COTAH rally. We have been discussing our versions of motorcycle motorsport events and agreed that speed-controlled, timed cross country motorcycle events are “enduros”. The genre began with the International Six Days Trial (later Enduro) in 1913. I have been referring to VIME events as “backcountry navigation trials” to differentiate them from races and rallyraids which are speed and race events.

Now the understanding of how non-race/non-speed competitive motosport is growing you can expect to see increasing references to enduro (being separate to rally and rallyraid).

Terra Pirata:

VIME started with the intention of bringing motorcycle motorsport to grassroots riders in an affordable way with a low bar to participation. Sport for all. This is accomplished by using free or low cost technology and a variety of technologies to encourage new participants into road legal backcountry motorcycle Motorsport. Gaia gps mapping, paper roadbooks, pdf roadbooks on rally roadbook reader and Richta Rally Timing.

I am looking at introducing Terra Pirata as the competition category tech for next year. Continuing with Gaia and roadbook-only categories for people who do not want to compete and adding TP with its timing and scoring capabilities.

Other BC and PNW events are using this system and time is approaching for VIME to follow suit.

TP runs on Android smartphones and tablets and doesn’t require the expense of dedicated hardware equipment that, for example RallyComp requires. It is also cheap for participants to use.

I have a great deal of learning to do on TP and I expect to put on a low cost, short test event next spring over the low country behind Port Alberni - we had a mild spring this year but who knows about next spring….

Gaia and Roadbook-only classes will still be offered as well as the timed enduro class…

Meanwhile , I have a course to lay out for September!

More soon….
