Building on the successes of the VIME autumn events in 2022 and 2023, the 2024 autumn event location and dates are announced.
The Sayward September Showcase will (funnily enough) be centred on Sayward Junction and take place over the holiday weekend of Friday 27 to Monday 30 of September 2024.
Sayward Junction (SJ) is about 50Km northwest of Campbell River on Highway19. Campbell River is on the east coast of Vancouver Island about level with Strathcona Provincial Park.
There are four motel/RV site/campgrounds near to SJ, ranging in price and facilities from motel to the free first-come Elk Creek Recreation Site.
In addition to the places to stay, SJ has a petrol station, a Co-Op grocery shop and a pub-restaurant. There is a WiFi internet service at the Co-Op.
The event will follow the usual VIME event format. Arrive Friday afternoon and evening with registration and sign-on (probably over a beer in the pub...).
Routes on Saturday and Sunday, covering the gravel backroads between SJ, Woss, Campbell River and Gold River, prizegiving Sunday evening in the pub before going home on (holiday) Monday.
Event classes will be Gaia tour, Roadbook only development and Roadbook+Richta GPS timing competition. The nature of the routes will not be suitable for novice riders, but do not expect anything as difficult as Hard Enduro, MX or trials. The intention is that everyone will be in a fit state to go to work on Tuesday (if a little tired and achy - we all have responsibilities to meet!).
THIS IS NOT A RACE OR A SPEED EVENT!
It is a backcountry time/speed/distance regularity event.
The routes will be suitable for Dualsport and Adventure bikes, in the order of 200km each day and open to licenced/registered/insured bikes and riders.
